Prevent Tree from Fruiting or Kill it? Osage Orange

In my sister's backyard, they have at least one very tall Osage Orange tree. She wanted to have it cut down and removed but didn't like the cost.

It drops baseball sized fruit that look like little brains.

From our research, they are not edible. They are really a hazard as her kids play in the backyard. They fall this time of year for the next couple months I believe.

Is there a way to inject something into the tree's roots to prevent it from fruiting? Killing the tree is an option but would still have to be cut and hauled away. Believe it's like $5k to do that or more.
